Who is Black Betty? (Dan Meredith)
For 13 years I have been a chef and have absolutely loved it!
My early roots started back in Palmerston Nth where I studied and learnt the basics of what it meant to deliver quality food at my highest standard daily. From there I moved to the beautiful Hawkes Bay where I worked in wineries, bars, cafes, food trucks, catering company’s & restaurants. I even opened my own cafe in Havelock North called ‘Thyme Cafe’ after a few years. From there, a bit bored of the town scene and hospitality, in 2013 I started a media company called D.M Productions, as a freelance videographer & specialize in wedding films, family portraits, event marketing & real estate.
Gaining love again and missing the hustle bustle of kitchens I started working in luxury hunting lodges as a private chef in some of NZs best outfitters which took me to the big USA to work and travel for 6 years. I traveled all around the west and central America, and Texas, and that’s where I found my love for BBQ.
Today Black Betty is a place where I can share all my experiences and what I have learnt along the way through working with amazing chefs, celebrities, and just all round great inspiring people.
